Welcome to Govt. Arts and Science College, Kozhinjampara
Government Arts and Science College, Kozhinjampara is a recently established College in response to the constant demands of the people of the backward border areas of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The College was established in the year 2005, and ever since, it has been trying its level best to remedy the educational problems of the locality. The inhabitants of this place to the most are Tamil speaking people. It was due to their demand that the College was established by giving priority as linguistic minority College. The College is situated in a sprawling campus of 15.85 acres of land and it can accommodate a good number of students.
Though this institution had a humble beginning with regard to its infrastructural facilities, in the course of these years, we have been equipped with a spacious Academic block, a large Auditorium cum Library, an Administrative Block and a Microbiology Department wing. The relentless support and help from the local M.L.As and M.Ps have been quite a boon for the growth of the College. A good number of the students belong to socially, economically and educationally backward families. We help to materialise their dream of achieving Graduate Degree and Post Graduate Degree by which they will come up in life and secure respectable positions.
Nearly 85% of the students of our College are girls, thus contributing to the national policy of the upliftment and empowerment of women. There is a mixture of girls from forward and backward communities, from SC/ST’s, OEC, OBC’s, PH, TLM and BPL (EBFC) sections, thus representing the whole society.
The College has permanent affiliation to the University of Calicut. We have Under Graduate courses in three disciplines and Post Graduate course in one; The programmes being B.A. Functional English, B.Com. Finance, B.Sc. Microbiology and M.Sc. Microbiology. A course in Microbiology is highly prestigious, since it has great demand in and out of the nation. We are proud to state that, in the State of Kerala the only Government College that offers a P.G. course in Microbiology is Govt. Arts and Science College, Kozhinjampara. Similarly there is a growing demand for B.A. and B.Com. Degree programmes. The University of Calicut has now sanctioned a few courses based on the demands of the students, staff and local people in the year 2013-14. The new courses sanctioned are M.A. English, M.Com., B.Sc. The newly constructed ladies hostel inside the campus at the cost of Rs. 2.10 Crores is a significant achievement of recent times. Hostel can accommodate more than 80 girls. The infrastructure work is completed, and works related to the official commencement of the hostel and appointment of permanent hostel office and kitchen staff is in progress. The College was able to construct a massive auditorium cum library which is at par with the best available in the state. The College library consists of 8,500 books and 14 periodicals (weekly, bimonthly and monthly) and 8 news papers (Malayalam, English and Tamil). A multipurpose synthetic court is also being built at a cost of 25 lakhs funded by the Government. Our students are selected to the University sports and games teams quite often in various categories. The College PTA offers whole hearted support and takes active part in the smooth running of the College. The opinions and complaints raised by the parents are always taken into consideration with utmost respect.

Members of the ministerial staff are sincere and always ready to work for the progress of the institution.
The College career guidance cell is very active; the placement cell has been able to arrange campus recruitment of a few companies. The College regularly organises motivational classes by professional experts and entrepreneurs with a view to impart awareness and motivation. The ongoing projects under new initiative scheme like WWS (Walk With a Scholar) SSP (Students Support Programme) and ASAP (Additional Skill Acquisition Programme) are quite useful for the students. WWS has external as well as internal mentors who help the students to identify their strong areas of study so that they can plan to pursue their studies in the way best suited to them. The SSP is a form of remedial coaching through which weaker students are identified and teachers help them to overcome their concerns related to the areas of study or difficult topics. ASAP not only identifies the neediest students, but also provides opportunities to acquire additional skills. The higher education council has taken genuine interest in making these projects successful and the College has responded quite enthusiastically to all such programmes. The College NSS Programme is working quite efficiently and conduct annual camps, awareness programme, surveys, health programmes and so on, which help the local people, Panchayath, Municipality and society in general. NSS has been involved in the campus development, construction of road, homes and toilets and also conducts yearly blood donation camps.
The Tourism Club is quite active in this College. It conducts seminars and pay visits to local tourist spots. Green Campus programmes are blessing to the College campus. The unique geographical and climatic features of the locality do not favour enough rain and we do not receive much rainwater even during rainy seasons. This would have made the campus look quite unpleasant but for the green measures taken by the NSS and different clubs in the College. The Forest Department of Kerala make available quite a number of saplings which have been planted during rainy seasons with the hope of getting enough shade and greenery in the campus. College has very active nature club and environment club which take up the job of beautifying the premises as well as creating awareness among students about the need to be environment friendly.
The College purchase committee takes decision on the purchase of articles and materials by making use of the financial assistance offered by the Government of Kerala. The College research development committee supervises the research related activities of the students as well as the faculty. Since UGC recognition has not been received by the College, at present the projects are being self-financed.
The IQAC of the College meets periodically and evaluate matters related to the preparation to accreditation of the College. The grievance redressal cell is functioning effectively for the transparent and smooth conduct of internal assessment process. The College has a main computer lab and a mini computer lab equipped with a total of 28 computers and projectors and is linked with internet facilities.
The examination committee, with its chief superintendent/additional chief, conducts university/non-university /Public Service Examinations in a befitting and transparent manner.
The women’s cell conducts periodical meetings, arranges legal awareness programmes and always tries to rectify the complaints lodged by the girl students.
The anti - ragging cell is quite vigilant all throughout the year (Supreme Court of India in WP(c)No.656/1998).We are proud to state that there has not been any single instance of ragging reported to the Principal or to higher authorities so far. Both parents and students are made to submit an affidavit in a prescribed format at the time of admission itself which effectively prevents the students from indulging in ragging.
The College film society is a unique feature of the institution which conducts film festivals annually. Movies in all languages are screened, followed by discussions. This provides a rare opportunity for the students to familiarise themselves with modern techniques and trends in film viewing and film making.
The College envisages achieving a lot in the coming years in both the academic and non-academic arena, with proper and adequate funding from the higher authorities which will enable the institution to record indelible marks in the academic history of the State and the University.
